Outpatient Counseling Services

Traditional Counseling

Winner’s Circle Center provides traditional face-to-face counseling for children, adolescents, adults and families experiencing difficulty in their lives. We seek to provide an environment for therapy that brings a feeling of comfort to our clients, and clients have the ability to choose which environment will serve them best. Whether in the office or around the farm, our counseling services are grounded in the Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution-Focused models with the goal of helping clients find the best solutions for life’s challenges and empowering clients to seek positive change.

Specializing in children, our goal is to meet kids where they are, provide a safe, comfortable and non-intimidating space and work to develop a trusting relationship. Ultimately, we help clients see their strengths and challenges and identify motivators to change in a positive way. Based upon the presenting problem, family members may be seen individually or together.

You and your counselor will work together to develop goals and objectives designed to improve your individual situation. Our counseling services are grounded in the Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution-Focused models with the goals of helping clients find their own best solutions for life’s challenges and empowering clients with a strength-based approach. You will be seen by a Master’s level professional in a private, confidential setting. Traditional counseling services are not limited to the office setting at Winner’s Circle Center. Your counseling session may occur while strolling around the farm and gardens, watching the various farm animals or seated outdoors to enjoy the fresh air. Our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable and enjoyable setting in which to bring about positive change.

Social Skills Training

In past generations, the majority of children learned such basic skills as communication, feelings identification, perspective taking, sharing, respect cooperation, compromise and empathy prior to entering the educational system. Children learned these skills naturally within their family and community settings as well as through trial and error while interacting with other children at play. Due to various environmental, cultural, and familial issues of today’s generation, a significant number of today’s youth lack basic social, emotional, and behavior skills. With advances in computer and cell phone technology and the financial necessity of long working hours for parents, many children ‘play’ alone at home for hours every day via chat room websites, texting or computer games. Face to face time with peers is no longer the norm as children grow up.

Unfortunately, many of today’s youngsters are entering school without the basic social skill set of generations past. This lack of social skills leaves our children unable to successfully navigate the classroom, playground and community settings. We believe that children, as well as adults, can be taught essential social skills and with therapy, will become successful and contributing members within their home, school and community setting.

Canine Assisted Counseling

Winner’s Circle Center is proud to offer the services of therapy dogs during counseling sessions. Our dog of choice is miniature Dachshunds, and we have been actively involved with Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue since 2007. It has long been established that dogs provide supportive, non-judgmental and compassionate interactions that can reduce our stress and anxiety and create a sense of personal well-being. Just stroking, sitting next to or playing with a dog can help clients relax and calm their minds. Many people simply find it easier to talk to a counselor while interacting with a therapy dog. Children in particular often find it calming to work with animals, and some children will more readily talk to an animal than they will to an adult human being. In these cases, working with a dog may be the starting point in leading to an increase in the desire and ability to connect socially with others. The antics of our dogs will often “break the ice” for new clients and help find common ground in building rapport between client and therapist.
